Thanksgiving Wishes

As the holiday season approaches, with warm firelight glowing in the windows and daylight hours slowly beginning to dwindle, our hearts and minds turn to the reasons we come together at the end of each year to celebrate faith, family, and hope. The turning of the leaves and perhaps the first fall of snow usher in a nostalgic time that for many begins with Thanksgiving Day.

For some, Thanksgiving is a chance to reunite with family and friends after the end of a long year apart. Humor and celebration abound as stories are exchanged, a feast is shared, and new memories are made that linger long after the day has passed.

Many others cherish the holiday by making it a time of personal reflection. The day serves as a quiet reminder of the many small joys that are easily taken for granted, such as food, shelter, health, companionship, and love. It is a time for taking stock of priorities, and becoming accountable for making the most of what we have been given.

The day also continues to serve as a symbol of sacred religious traditions around the world. Millions give thanks to a higher power as they bow their heads together over a family meal, while still others offer a word of gratitude in their hearts during a private moment apart before the day’s end.

Perhaps our reasons for being grateful, and the powers we thank, differ from one another, but Thanksgiving brings together a world of individuals seeking the peace and confirmation that comes with simply acknowledging the ways we have been blessed in our own rights. Just before the busy shopping season gets well underway, Thanksgiving offers a moment for family, friends, kindness, humility, and reverence as a fitting opening chapter to another year’s festivities. It prepares hearts and minds for the time of giving to others that quickly follows after, inspiring those who wish to stop and contemplate their joys an opportunity to allow a certain grace into their lives, and then share that grace with the ones they love.
